HISTORY
Born deep in the forests of Kilia, to a secluded, eccentric pair, Gabe's life has always revolved around his family -- not only the people he knows best, but, essentially, the only people he's ever truly known. He was always generally a good boy, studying where expected and showing aptitude for magic, as expected, from a young age (though he never showed as much potential as his younger brother, Evan.) With little to do in the (long) gaps between visitors and trips into what remnants of civilization -- tiny towns and villages, mostly -- they shared their forest home with, Gabe took to reading, taking advantage of his father's extensive collection of books.

He was eight years old when the Accident that would change his life took place. His mother, frenzied and distraught, insisted that the Dragon People had come for their father, legions of them, baring claws and bristling teeth and glaring through blood red eyes. Having been raised with the rumors of the Dragon People constantly whispered of in his hearing, Gabe had no reason to disbelieve his mother, and though he took a better liking to the indoors, afterward, the incident left him mostly unchanged -- at first. After all, his father had been a distant figure, teacher more than father, and a little strange in his own right ...

But then, his mother's story began to change. The Dragon People, she insisted, had not only come for their father, but they were coming for him, too, and Evan, as well, and there was nothing she could do, after all, hadn't she failed to save their father? She ranted and raved and predicted their bloody deaths day in and day out, and Gabe began to wonder, as the months went by, if it wouldn't just be better for everyone if the Dragon People came for her and left Evan and him in peace. And he read, and practiced the magic his father had taught him, and ignored her as best he could.

Until her story changed again. Now, the Dragon People had already come for them, or perhaps had already gotten them, right around when they'd taken their father, of course, and just like that, Gabe and Evan were no longer children, but ghosts in their own home, feared and reviled by their steadly worsening mother, who slipped further and further into insanity as the months went by. She insisted they leave her in peace, shooing them out on occassion, screeching incoherently at them on others, once nearly setting fire to their home in the hopes of purging them, the evil spirits. She fed them only on the condition that they take her offering and leave her be (for good, preferably), and she utterly neglected them in all other aspects, their clothes falling into disrepair, their studies falling further and further behind ... and one day, Gabe and Evan decided they'd had enough.

After all, facing the Dragon People couldn't be worse than living with that.

They ran away, leaving their mother alone with her mad delusions, recalling stories they'd heard of the city of Taln -- and though they had no idea which direction it lay in, they knew it existed, and that, they supposed, would just have to be enough.



PERSONALITY
Gabe fancies himself a leader, particularly as the elder brother, and as such, tends toward a habit of making decisions, giving orders, and then throwing tantrums in the likely event that his decisions are questioned or said orders are disobeyed. He's impulsive and somewhat reckless, and very good at tuning out things he doesn't want to hear -- he's had so much practice, after all. He's also quite stubborn, and more than a little angry -- but, he figures, if anyone else had to put up with all the things he's been through, they'd be a little angry, too.

He loves to read, and thinks he's much better with magic than he actually is.




APPEARANCE
Gabe has wild, unkept white hair, grey eyes, is almost alarmingly thin, and sports a very pale complexion. He stands at roughly 5'0."
